Grant’s Birthday Bash

Destination Burlington is hosting a party in celebration of President Grant’s birthday and the 150th anniversary of his presidency! They will be opening the historic pub, in Grant’s time known as The Metropolitan, located in the Tourism Center, 400 High Street, Burlington, NJ to the public from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Come and see the fantastic preserved bar, the exact place where General Grant and President Lincoln were rumored to have arm wrestling duels on numerous occasions. Learn about the history of the pub and Burlington in the time of Grant. Ticket price includes the historic bar and The Riverview Restaurant party afterward. At the bar enjoy a taste of the General’s favorite libation (Old Crow), as well as historic narration; one might even spot the presence of the President (Lincoln) and General Grant in full dress at the bar. Those purchasing the first 50 ticket tickets will receive a free commemorative glass.
Then, the celebration continues at the Riverview Restaurant (219 High St) from 7:00 to 9:00. Enjoy hors d’oeurvre, live piano music, some surprises, and comradery! Help Destination Burlington raise funds and awareness about our city and share ideas on how to further tourism.
Also, the oldest Library in the state will remain open and have a display of artifacts and related information regarding the General, his home in Burlington, and his time as General and President of the United States during the month of April.
Tickets are $50 each and may be purchased at Phillip’s Antiques 609-386-7125, Lyceum Hall Center for the Arts 609-239-0029, Burlington County Historical Society 609-747-8054 or at the door of the Tourism Center 400 High Street on the evening of the event.
