The Dime is on the second floor of 351 High Street atop Francesco's restaurant and Cornerstone Bank. It is inside a historic High Street building that once housed a McCrory's five-and-dime store.
"We named it The Dime to pay homage to the five-and-dime McCrory's store that used to occupy this corner of High and Broad streets," said Michael Kane, The Dime manager.
"We offer short-term leases as a career incubator for artists of all types and provide space for them to work, showcase their art and sell it."
The first tenants to move in will be a jewelry artist, a woodworker and a classic artist, according to the owners.
"We bought the building as local residents who want to effect change in the city," Canivan said.
"We decided to change the concept from office space to make space for arts and to partner with the other city arts groups — the Lyceum for performing arts and the guild —the restaurants and city tourism,' Canivan continued.
"And we wanted to bring change to the downtown," Pennisi said.
Welcome! We celebrate the diverse community that we live in and serve, and hope to demonstrate that on stage and behind the scenes. If you're looking for a place to enjoy live theatre in New Jersey we invite you to join us at Bridge Players Theatre Company.
